Lee Carsley has confirmed that England will not "take a chance" on the fitness of Harry Kane after the Bayern Munich striker's injury scare.

Kane limped out of Bayern's 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga at the weekend and Carsley has since confirmed that the England captain is not fit enough to start their Nations League clash with Greece on Wednesday. In his absence, the interim manager has confirmed that John Stones will captain his country.

England also face Finland in Helsinki on Sunday, and while Carsley has not ruled out the prospect of Kane coming off the bench against Greece, he is keen to have him available at the weekend. The Bayern star scored twice against Finland in September.

WHAT CARSLEY SAID

Carsley told reporters: 'Harry's nursing an injury. A small knock. It's something we won't take a chance with."

He added: "We're not ruling him out yet, of the game, but he won't start the game. He'll be in contention then for Sunday. Time will tell. It's not something we should be rushing."
