To succeed in EA Sports FC 26’s Career Mode, especially with clubs that have low budgets or are in the process of rebuilding, signing free agents is the best business practice. While this is typically done in the lower leagues, even the best teams and players are involved in free signings and pre-contract agreements.
While wages still have to be paid, which can include signing-on fees for the player, the best free agents in FC 26 can save millions, which they can then invest in other areas of the pitch. Free agents can also be sold in future transfer windows for pure profit.
The Best Career Mode Free Agents In FC 26
There aren’t as many free agents at the start of a Career Mode, due to the best already being picked up by teams in real life. The following, however, are still without a club, signed too close to the game’s launch, or feature for teams not in FC 26. They can help boost the first season of a Road to Glory campaign. The best free agents in FC 26 don’t even have to be starters; instead, they could be squad players who fill in for injuries and for midweek games.
These are the free agents when using the initial squads. Also, beware that disabling the first transfer window stops free agents from being signed.

How To Find The Best Free Agents In FC 26 In Other Seasons
There will always be more free agents in FC 26 as contracts run out or players are released. While players could wait until the start of a new season to shop around for the best free signings, it’s much better to be proactive. In fact, it’s possible to sign future free agents preemptively before their contracts run out.
Players should also make sure to renew their own players’ contracts before the January transfer window to avoid losing them for free.
For regular free agents, use the search for player function, which includes an option to only find free agents. Players without a club will have some of their stats visible to give an idea of their overall skill, but they need to be further scouted for full details and their overall rating.
How To Sign Free Agents Early
Firstly, players will want to create a Scout Instruction to find players with 0-1 years left on their contract. If you’re looking for a specific playstyle or quality, these options can be set in the Instruction too.
Throughout the year, keep an eye on this Scout Instruction and fully scout any players who catch your attention and put them on your Transfer Shortlist. It should say they have a certain number of months remaining, although expect some contracts to be renewed.
As soon as the January Transfer window begins on January 1st, look at the Transfer Shortlist for any of these players with the option to ‘Approach to Sign’. If you offer them a good enough role and the correct wages, they should hopefully agree. When the next season begins, they will be your player for free.
Other teams will also look to snap up these players, especially the best ones, so don’t wait around.
